Community-Based Cancer Screening & Early Diagnosis Services
As the NHS expands cancer screening and prevention initiatives, EMS Healthcare supports Cancer Alliances, ICBs, charities and regional teams with flexible community-based delivery models designed to improve uptake and reduce barriers to participation.
Client testimonial
We know from speaking to men that some may have reservations about going to see their doctor and they’re a bit anxious about going to the hospital. In this situation, we’ve taken the message out into the community, so a mobile unit is invaluable.

Supporting earlier cancer diagnosis
Bringing cancer screening closer to communities
Traditional screening models do not always reach the populations most affected by access barriers.
EMS Healthcare delivers screening and prevention programmes in community settings closer to where people live, work, and shop - reducing travel burden and improving accessibility.
Capabilities include:
- mobile screening infrastructure
- community outreach and engagement
- flexible deployment across underserved areas
- managed programme delivery
Improving screening access for at-risk groups
Within 6 months, #ThisVanCan saw remarkable results:
men attended an appointment and had PSA blood tests
appointments were attended on board
men were referred on for suspected cancer

Mobile clinic providing screening in the community
1 in 8 men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
Greater Manchester Cancer Alliance and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust worked together to talk to men over the age of 45 about their risk of prostate cancer and offer PSA blood tests on board a mobile health clinic, #ThisVanCan.
We provided the van, a phlebotomist and identified locations to engage with the project's core demographic in accessible settings.
The project was supported by Prostate Cancer UK, BHA for Equality, Can-Survive UK, and the Caribbean and African Health Network.
