Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust

Mobile Clinical Research Facility

From the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, Guy's and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust began clinical research into treatments, diagnostics and vaccines. Supporting a total of 87 clinical trials and recruiting 7,929 participants, the Trust assisted in the development of COVID-19 vaccines through the Oxford Astrazeneca, Janssen and Novavax vaccine trials.

Due to the impact of the pandemic, space within the hospitals was difficult to find and the Research and Development team at Guy’s and St Thomas’ had to think outside the box to accommodate the additional clinical research capacity needed for the expanding portfolio of COVID-19 studies. Our Pathfinder Mobile Clinical Research Facility provided the ideal solution - being rapidly deployable and having a small footprint with the ability to see up to 6 participants at any one time.

Shaun Cochrane, Deputy Director at Guys and St Thomas’ Biomedical Research Centre commented “The use of the Pathfinder has been very valuable to us and it is a nice creative solution for these extreme circumstances."
