Urgent Treatment Centres
Creating additional capacity and reducing A&E waiting times
Our Urgent Treatment Centres (UTC) play a vital role in alleviating pressures on emergency departments, helping to reduce waiting time and improve patient flow. Co-located within hospital estates and community settings, UTCs ensure care is delivered where it’s needed most.
In line with NHS England’s operational planning guidance, we can improve urgent care by:
- Increasing capacity for patients to be seen and treated
- Tailoring services to local needs
- Ensuring fast service delivery

Expanding A&E care with a dedicated Urgent Treatment Centre
We recently supported an NHS Trust in strengthening its urgent care capacity with the deployment of a new Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC). Since its introduction, the Trust has recorded its best four-hour performance in over a year, whilst maintaining record levels of attendance.
The unit has enabled more efficient streaming of patients to the UTC, helping to relieve pressure on the Trust’s smaller emergency department, where space has been at an absolute premium. This approach has delivered clear benefits for both operational performance and patient experience.

Case study
Working with an NHS trust, our team deployed an Urgent Treatment Centre to strengthen their urgent care capacity. We delivered a tailored solution which provided space for patients presenting to A&E with minor ailments.
