The mobile macular unit increases capacity by up to 250 additional appointments slot per week, in convenient supermarket locations.
As a first of its kind, the mobile macular unit launched in 2014. EMS Healthcare have recently supported Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust to upgrade the unit, so that they can continue taking care into the community.
The refurbishments made to both the interior and exterior of the Liberty unit, include:
- New hybrid generator installed, with solar panels and battery back-up reducing emissions by 50%
- New air exchange and air conditioning system
- Upgraded CCTV system and intruder alarm
- Updated exterior graphics and interior design, remaining clinical but also comfortable and welcoming
Cath Williams, Project Director at EMS Healthcare, said: "Now the unit is back on the road, we're really excited to welcome both staff and patients back on board. Based on patient feedback, 90% of patients prefer the mobile unit, as they find it much more convenient."
Supermarket sites throughout the hospital's catchment area were chosen for their convenient access and proximity to patients requiring the service.
As well as enabling patients to be treated closer to home, the unit increases the Trust’s capacity for treating patients directly in and around the area.
