How can mobile respiratory hubs support the NHS?
By enabling patients to receive same day out of hospital care, mobile respiratory hubs can provide:
- Additional capacity to relieve pressures and increase the resilience of both primary and secondary care
- Convenient access to care, with the option to offer appointments in the heart of communities
- Reduced risk of patients being admitted to hospital by ensuring they are seen by a respiratory specialist quicker, for earlier diagnosis, treatment or advice

The Breathe Better Hub is a collaborative project for Respiratory Innovation Wales with the support of Hywel Dda University Health Board, Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board and Life Sciences Hub Wales. The mobile respiratory unit cuts down waiting times and improves access to respiratory services.
From supermarket carparks to rugby clubs, the Liberty mobile medical unit is set-up in the heart of Welsh communities, taking the fear and anxiety away from patients and allowing health boards to tackle the patient backlog more efficiently. The programme highlights how mobile respiratory hubs can:
- increase capacity and reduce the throughput at under-pressure hospital sites
- improve accessibility and patient convenience
- reduce hospital admissions with patients receiving same day access to care
