In support of Healthy Eyes Awareness Week, which takes place in Ireland between Monday 16th January to Sunday 22nd January 2017, the Vision Express 'Vision Van' is back on the road.

The week long awareness campaign is run by the FODO (Federation of Ophthalmic and Dispensing Opticians) with the aim of promoting the importance of eye health and the need for regular eye exams.

In Ireland, eye diseases and preventable sight loss costs the NHS up to €65 million per annum and by 2020 expenditure is estimated to reach €2.5 billion. Vision Express is calling on all Irish people to look after their eye sight and make eye health a priority in order to reduce preventable eye diseases and, in some cases, sight loss.

Omar Hassan, Head of Professional Services at Vision Express said "We know that sight loss is one of the most feared health conditions, yet a third of those surveyed haven’t had an eye test for four years. Crucially, safeguarding your sight involves an eye test at least every two years for adults and children. It is not only the best way to detect vision problems, but it can also indicate potentially serious health conditions such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes and an increased risk of stroke."

For the past 4 years, EMS Healthcare have worked on the ‘Vision Van' campaigns, which offer free 30-minute eye tests on board the ‘Vision Van’ a medical trailer fitted out especially for Vision Express. The clean white, contemporary environment appears clinical, reflecting its adherence to NHS & optical standards and offers two private eye testing rooms and a comfortable patient waiting area. Members of the public who aren’t able to commit to a 30-minute appointment on the day are offered a free eye test voucher for use at a Vision Express store.

Suzie Nield at EMS Healthcare commented "I am delighted to be working on such a great campaign again this year that makes such a difference to supporting people on their eye health journey."
